"Last year on the 23rd
of May,
Dr. Stephaine Hale joined her life in
marriage to Bishop Joseph W. Walker
III, pastor of the Mt. Zion Baptist
Church, Nashville, TN,
a dynamic
church with a membership that exceeds
22,000 persons. Thousands gathered
to witness the grand ceremony that was
the culmination of the prayers of two
special people. Raised in
Los Angeles, Dr. Walker is a graduate of Cornell
Medical School.
Prior to marriage, Dr.
Walker was a Harvard Medical Faculty
Physician at Beth Israel Deaconess
Medical Center
and an Instructor of
Pediatrics at Harvard
Medical School.
Currently, she is an Assistant Professor
of Pediatrics and Clinical Neonatology
at Vanderbilt University Children’s
hospital. In this space, Dr. Stephaine
Walker shares her thoughts about
health and how to maintain it, her
work in medicine, and the road that led
to her walk down the altar where the
Bishop stood waiting to marry her. |

"Jacqueline P. Thornton is First
Lady of Sweet Hope Free Will Baptist Church in
Baltimore,
Maryland.
She is also a Claims
Representative for State Farm Insurance Company.
A few years ago the
Women of Wisdom ministry at our church had a three day
retreat. During the planning of the retreat, along with one
of the ministers at our church, I realized that many of our
ladies had never been on a retreat. Some had never
experienced ‘getting away,’ to allow the Lord to minister to
them away from the sanctuary. As we prepared for the
retreat, I encouraged those who would be attending to be
‘selfish’ and allow God to minister to them individually and
get all that God wanted to give them during the three days.
I urged the women not to allow the adversary to interrupt
what God had planned just for them. I urged the women not to
leave the retreat the same way they arrived. The women were
asked to fast and pray prior to the retreat in preparation
of what God would do." |

"Letters of Light for
First Ladies is written in
the style of Paul’s epistles to the churches in the New
Testament.
However, these letters are
penned with the unique voice of comfort of Rev. Cecelia
Bryant.
The letters cover necessary and
relevant subjects such as self-esteem, church conflict,
financial stress, adultery and death of a pastoral spouse.
The author also includes a
letter for the man who is the spouse of a pastor.
Any reader of this book will
find that the author is honest, practical, timely and
spiritual.
With this book Rev. Bryant
covers, in a loving way, topics that have often been left
out of the literature for women in ministry.
In addition to this book, Rev.
Bryant has authored several other books, including
I Dance with God,
and she was a contributor to
the 4th edition of
Those Preaching Women." |

where her husband, Bishop Edgar Vann, is pastor. Last
November, Elder Vann ministered to the Men’s Ministry at her
church for the first time. She spoke at their request, and
she reports that it was a dynamic night with real talk. With
the exhortation ‘Finally’ (Ephesians 6:10) she told the men
the time had come to, “Step up and be men of God.”...TMW:
The media has reported that Detroit has been one of the
epicenters of the economic crisis that our country is
confronting...."
